We got this book after we read the other books in the collection, and my students loved this one too. We made fake snow and threw it around the classroom while reading the book to make the experience feel more real – the students LOVED that!
The Mitten
If you haven’t heard of this book by now, you must have been hiding from book stores! This is one of the most popular books for Winter, I think. It’s such a great book to make activities to go along with it and expand the learning.
My Snowman,Paul
I LOVE how Paul the Snowman doesn’t min being different, and this book is a great addition to teaching this important topic. Plus, who doesn’t love a good snowman story?

This is an older book and we weren’t sure how it would go down with our students, but they love it! My students love everything snow and this book was just a perfect Winter story. There’s also a cartoon version on Amazon Prime video!
Tracks in the Snow
One of our favourite things to do in the Winter is looking at different animal tracks. This book was a perfect addition to our lesson. It’s about a little girl following the tracks in the snow, who made them and where do they go.
Dream Snow
I love anything by Eric Carle, so when I saw this book, I just knew that we had to have it! My students love lifting the flaps to find the animals that are hiding in the snow.

This was such a fun book for us to add to our snowman unit. My students loved this story and wondering about what snowmen do at night.
The First Day of Winter
This was another book that we weren’t sure how our students would take it – but they love it too! We use this as one of our first Winter books to introduce Winter into our classroom.
Pizza Pie Snowman
Pizza is HUGE in our classroom. My students can’t get enough of it. So I just knew that this book was going to be a hit with them. They find the book so funny as Pinky walks through town, looking like a snowman, to get his pizza! After we read the book, we made pizzas and then ate them for snack, yum!

We love learning about Winter in this book, the pictures are beautiful and it’s one of our favourites to introduce our Winter topic.
The Animals Winter Sleep
This was another great addition to our hibernation unit. My students loved looking at the different animals in this book and how they survive in the winter. We worried that it might have been too much for my younger students, but they loved it too!
There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed Some Snow
I absolutely LOVE the whole ‘Old Lady who Swallowed..’ series and so do my students. I think we probably own every one in the whole series at this point and they never fail to amuse and keep my class engaged. The rhyming just adds extra fun to the book. This one doesn’t need too much information because it’s similar to her other books just with a fun Winter twist.
Welcome Winter
This is another book that we love to use to introduce Winter into our classroom. My students love rhyming books and this is a great addition to our rhyming collection.
