Today I’m sharing my top 5 life skills Boom Cards for special education students that I know you will love! I love to use Boom Cards with my students because they have so many benefits such as;
- Working on ICT skills.
- Improving independence.
- Easy to differentiate.
- Self-checking with easy data to record.
I love to use Boom Cards for so many skills and activities with my students. But some of my favorite skills to work on with them are life skills. Life skills stations can be really expensive to set up, especially if you’re a new teacher. And this is one thing I love about Boom Cards – you can have your students working on all of these life skills in one easy to use center.
1. Grocery Shopping Boom Cards
I love to take my students to the grocery store to work on shopping skills. But, it’s not always possible. So I really wanted to find a way to work on those skills in the classroom. This meant that I’d be able to help my students continue working on their shopping skills to transfer ready for their next grocery store visit.
In this Boom deck, students have to follow the shopping lists to put the items in their shopping cart. It’s a lot of fun and it comes in 3 different levels for you to use with your students.

2. Matching Feelings
Being able to identify and recognize feelings on ourselves and others is a really important life skill. This Boom deck is perfect for students to start to recognize how different feelings look on people. You can try it here.
3. Where Does it Belong?
Another important and transferrable skill that I like to work on with my students is identifying where things belong. Especially when at home. I really want to try and help students to become more independent. But I also want to work on some important life skills with them that will help them with their transition as they grow into adults.
This Boom deck is a fun way for students to work on identifying household objects and also where those objects belong. Try it here.
4. Working at the Restaurant
As I mentioned previously, I really like to try and work on skills that students can use when they become adults. This ‘Working at the Restaurant’ Boom deck is a fun way for students to start to work on skills needed in a restaurant environment. Try it here.
5. Clothing Yes or No Questions
I do a lot of work on yes/no questions with my students. And I love to try and incorporate these into different activities and learning opportunities for my students. With this Boom deck, by students can work on identifying pieces of clothing. What I love about this one though, is the discussions that we can have from the Boom deck. We can talk more about the items of clothing… When would we wear there? What weather would it be for these? I love when I can expand upon activities with my students and this Boom deck is perfect for doing that. Try it here.
