In this blog post today I’m sharing my favorite 5 pumpkin books for kids. I love to rotate through different books throughout the year in my classroom.. And I do the same at home with my son now too! He loves when there are some new books added to our little reading crate.
Below you’ll find 5 of my favorite pumpkin themed books that I love to use in my classroom – and with my son.

The Pumpkin Who Was Afraid of the Dark
We thought Boo was the cutest pumpkin ever! She doesn’t like trick-or-treating because she’s afraid of the dark. But in this story, you’ll find her meet a little boy who’s also scared and they work together on combating their fears. We love this story and it’s going to be brought out every year as a firm favorite!
We’re Going on a Pumpkin Hunt
We love the different ‘hunt’ books and this one has been a great addition! My students had so much fun following the trick or treaters on their hunt for the pumpkin. It also was perfect for making up some fun sensory bins to add to it as an extension too.
Spookley the Square Pumpkin
This one is also a popular book choice with my students. I like to use this 2D shapes pumpkin adapted book with my students as an extension activity to talk about the different shapes. We also reflect on the book when we go for our field trip to the pumpkin patch and identify the different pumpkins we can see. It’s a great opportunity to talk on differences with students.
Pumpkin Jack
This is probably one of my favorite books to have students read in class and then complete the pumpkin jack science experiment. You can even create a journal to have students complete each day or week to see how the pumpkin changes.
Squasherella
We LOVE this book. It’s like a super cute pumpkin version of the fairytale Cinderella – and it’s a huge hit with my students and my toddler son too!
There are so many fab pumpkin themed books out there, but these 5 are my favorite ones to use because I love how easily they are to extend into learning activities too. What pumpkin books are you using? Leave a comment below to share your recommendations with others too.
