I was so excited this week to find out that ‘Sesame Place‘ is now an Autism Certified theme park!
Having a theme park that fully understands autism and the differing needs of our students.. But also for our autistic individuals all through the community, of all different ages.. Is a great step in the right direction!
What does ‘An Autism Certified Theme Park’ mean?
Well to begin, their staff will have training in the following areas;
- Sensory Awareness
- Motor Skills
- Autism Overview
- Program Development
- Social Skills
- Communication
- Environment
- Emotional Awareness
That is a LOT of training for a company to invest in – and isn’t it just great to see? But, that’s not all, in the park you’ll also be able to find;
- Quiet Rooms
- Noise-Cancelling Headphones
- Low Sensory Areas
- Low Sensory Parade Viewing
- Meet Julia! – How exciting!!
I can’t even begin to explain what a difference this is going to make for so many visitors to the park. And not only autistic visitors either! All of this that they are providing can be helpful to so many individuals in our community and really help them to access the theme park in a way that it best for them.
As you can see, Sesame Place have really gone above and beyond to try and help make their theme park more Autism friendly. Their opening day is on April 28th and I’d love to hear anyone who is able to experience the theme park and how well their service is.
