Benefits of the Apple Ten Frames Sensory Bin

Fine Motor Skills Development: Using jumbo tweezers to pick apples (pom-poms) off the tree helps students improve their dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
Number Recognition: Students become familiar with numbers 0-10 as they match and place apples on the ten frames.
Counting and Matching: The activity reinforces counting skills and helps students understand the concept of quantity by matching apples to the corresponding numbers on the worksheets.

Instructions

Prepare the Trees:
- Print out the two trees on page 2 of the PDF file.
- Laminate the trees for durability and cut them out.
- Attach velcro dots to the trees and to green and red pom-poms (which represent apples).
For Higher Level Students (Pages 3-13):
- Print and laminate these pages.
- Students will pick apples off the tree and place them onto the ten frame to match the number on the worksheet.
- Using a dry-wipe pen, students will overwrite the numbers to practice number formation.
For Lower Level Students (Pages 14-24):
- Print and laminate these pages.
- Students will pick apples off the tree and place them onto the ten frame to cover over the dots on the ten frame, matching the number on the worksheet.
- Students will then use a dry-wipe pen to overwrite the numbers, ensuring they get practice with number writing.

How to Set Up the Sensory Bin

The following is the materials that I used to set up the sensory bin to go with this activity, and how I did it. I have also included quick and easy Amazon shopping lists below for you to grab everything you need.

What I Used

Sensory table. (Find my go-to sensory table set ups here.)
Oats.
Red/green glitter.
Red pom-poms.
Green pom-poms.
Mini baskets.
Scoops.
Jumbo tweezers.

How to Set Up

I start by pouring oats into the sensory bin.
Next I mix in a little red/green glitter.
I place the trees from the download (as mentioned above) at the back of the bin and attach red and green pom-poms to them.
Then I scatter red and green pom-poms around the sensory bin.
Next I add in some mini baskets.
Finally, I add in some scoops and jumbo tweezers.
