Hi everyone, this is Nikki from Teaching Autism. Today I’m so excited to share with you some news about my upcoming autism teacher training online course.
Transform Your Autism and Special Education Classroom
Are you a teacher or education professional who is looking to further your knowledge and experience? Do you want to make your classroom a friendly, inviting, safe and successful space for your autism and special education students?
This online course is perfect for anyone who wants to go over some of the trickier basics. And to ensure that we are doing all that we can to make our school and classrooms are a fun space for our students. And to help support them with their learning journey.
Who Am I?
I’m Nikki and I’m the face behind Teaching Autism. I have over 8 years of experience working with autistic students over a range of abilities and ages. Through my years of experience, I have been lucky to work alongside some of the most wonderful education professionals. As well as attend numerous training opportunities and conferences.
I created Teaching Autism because I wanted to share my knowledge, experience and resources with professionals all around the world. And it is so exciting to see my resources being used in classrooms everywhere now.
You may be wondering if this online course is for you. So I’m here to tell you a little more about the course. What you can expect from it. And then you can decide if this is something you want to go forward with.
This course is called Transform your Autism and Special Education classroom. However, this course is not just for teachers who work in those specific classrooms. It could even work for general education classrooms where you have special education or autistic students in your class. Or even if you’re homeschooling right now.
What’s Included?
This course has 5 main modules that we will be covering. These modules have been created, based on the questions that I receive from you guys the most. If you follow me on social media, my blog or if you’re on my mailing list, you’ll know that I tailor everything to suit you guys. I want to help you all to make your teaching journey a fun one. And with as little stress as possible!
Module 1
So, module 1 is all about setting up your classroom. We’re going to be talking about how to set up your classroom. And how the layout can have an effect on your students. Different ways that the room set up can make your classroom a more positive learning space for your students. Considering sensory alterations and we’re even going to discuss group and individual work spaces.
Module 2
From there, our next module is about how to manage your team. If you’re a paraprofessional or teaching assistant, or you’re a teacher leading a team of assistants, this is going to be the perfect way to help you understand the importance of team work. And how to make successful, professional relationships. I am going to be discussing conflict – and how to resolve this and move forward. Communication. Responsibilities. Training. Making everyone in your team feel involved and important. And how to remove some of the pressure and workload from you, and filter it out to your team.
Module 3
Our next module is about IEPs. This is a question I get asked about everyday. Which can range from how to set IEP goals right through to tracking data and what to do with them. In this module, I’m going to go back to basics and go through the process with you. We’ll start by learning about what IEPs are, why they are important and some tips. We’ll be discussing how to organise IEPs and make accommodations. Progress monitoring, collecting data. And even how to set goals. We will even discuss how to involve your students more. There’ll be some tips to run IEP meetings too.
Module 4
Module 4 is communication. And this is one that a lot of people think they have down to a tee. But I’m going to throw some whole new exciting glittery things your way. We will go right back to why communication is important, and how to communicate with our learners. We’ll be discussing processing time, common errors, understanding and how to engage your learners who appear to not want to communicate.
Module 5
And our final module is behavior management. I get so many questions about behaviors and how to deal with different behaviors, reduce them, stop them, change them. How to find the function of behaviors and how to handle this in the classroom. This module is going to blow your mind.
We are going to have example case studies to work on. This is where we can work out the function of the behaviours. This will get your mind thinking openly. And it will help you to really look at individual students. As well as to try to work out what the function of the behaviour is. We’re going to be discussing behaviour plans, self control, power struggles, aggression, trust and building relationships. I’ll even be giving you tips and advice for how you can make a successful calm down area. Or even a calm down resource to use with your students.
Wait! There’s more…
If that’s not enough, throughout this course you’ll be receiving free resources. That’s right, free. The resources are going to be linked to each of the topics. And I’m not just going to be throwing information at you. There’ll be action points at the end of each module. Which means you can go off and put that information into action. This isn’t a course where you can take notes, think it’s amazing and then totally forget about it. This course is going to be a game changer. It’s going to transform you, your teacher journey and your students learning experiences.
I know we all love free resources. So I’m going to share just some of the free resources you’ll be getting in the modules. There’ll be;
- checklists,
- visual resources,
- timelines,
- behaviour management tools,
- templates for organization,
- a binder for your team members,
- IEP cheat sheets and templates,
- a communication book and,
- a lesson example.
And at the end of all of this, you’ll receive a gift card to spend at my online store teachingautism.co.uk. Here you can get a resource – or multiple resources – to add to your resources.
