In this blog post today I’m sharing my camping end of year theme day for special education. I love to do end of the year theme days with my students, and I usually try and do 2 or 3 each year. The camping theme is probably my favorite because there’s just so many things we can do with this theme day to really expand the day and learning.

The Resources
To find out more about each of the resources included in my camping end of year theme packet, read below;
Editable Signs
These signs come in a fun camping theme but blank. This means you can add any text or images you want to add to make them custom for your came day.
Camping Bingo
Bingo is a great way to work on a variety of skills, not just for vocabulary and identifying objects. But it’s also great for working on social skills and cognitive function. All of the vocabulary and images included are linked to the theme of camping.
Shopping for Camping Supplies Game
Students need to follow the shopping list to purchase their camping essentials from Nicola’s Camping Supplies store. Set it up like a store and have students pull the items off the shelves to put into their shopping cart.
Map Skills
Comes with 1 page where students need to follow instructions and place the items on the map. Then multiple options for students to create their own campsites using the map and placing items on it – then using the key to identify the pieces of the map.
Reading Comprehension Passages and Questions. Worksheets and Google Slides
The comprehension worksheets can either be printed out or accessed on Google slides. All are in a fun camping theme and perfect for working on student’s reading comprehension skills.
Camping Conversation Starter Cards
I love to provide my students with plenty of opportunities to work on their speech and communication skills. These fun camping themed conversation starters are a great way to get students communicating and starting conversations with each other.
Counting Marshmallows on the Fire Task Box
Students need to place real mini marshmallows onto the campfire – following the instructions for the amount that they need to place on it.
Design a Campsite – Draw and Write.
Let students get creative by designing their very own campsite. Students can draw their campsite and then write a couple of sentences about their campsite and the features that it has.
Design a Tent – Draw and Write
Let students get creative by designing their very own tent. Students can draw their tent and then write a couple of sentences about their tent and the features that it has.
End of Year Flip Book – Reflection Camp
One of my favorite activities to do with my students. Students need to complete each page of the flip book to reflect back on their year. It’s in a fun camping theme and looks great printed on yellow and green card – or any colors you want to use!
Fishing for CVC Words
A fun game where students have to fish for the matching CVC words on the card that they have. Make it extra fun by attaching magnets to the fish and using a magnetic fishing pole.
I Have.. Who Has..?
Another fun game that can be used as a whole class activity. Students read out the cards and have to find out who has the next card. A great way for working on those all important speaking and listening skills.
Create a Campfire Story
Another opportunity for students to get creative where they can write their very own campfire story! Comes with a blank worksheet as well a multiple worksheets with story starters to give students a helping hand with creating their own campfire story.
Noun, Verb and Adjective Sorting
Students need to sort the leaves with the images and words on to the correct tree – is it a noun, verb or an adjective?
Number to Number Name Matching
Students need to find the fish (I like to laminate them and hide them in a bowl of blue water beads) with the number names on and match them to the number fish that they have on their worksheets.
Play Dough Mats
Students use play dough to create the same camping themed images as the play dough mats show. Also an opportunity for working on counting and number recognition skills by making and counting marshmallows on the fire and then creating the number out of play dough.
Shape Matching Campfires Task Box
Students need to identify what 2D shape the campfire is.
S’mores Sequencing
Students read the short story on the top of the puzzle, taking in the details. Then, they place the puzzle pieces in order to match the sequence of the story.
S’mores Trail Mix Recipe
Set up a snack station and provide your students with this fun recipe to make their very own s’mores trail!
Woodland Animal Hunt
Hide the woodland animals in a tray of sticks and leaves. Students have to find them, then color in the animals on their worksheet and write the names of the animals.
Word Search
With plenty of word search worksheets included, as well as make-your-own word searches, these are a fun addition to any theme day!
Writing Prompts
These writing prompts look amazing when they’re completed, colored in and hung up. Students can use the writing prompts to talk about different camping experiences.
All of the resources in this theme day come with both spelling options where appropriate. Meaning this bundle of resources will suit all classrooms. I.E. Favorite / Favourite. Color / Colour.
