What are Wh- Questions?
Wh- questions are a type of interrogative sentence that begin with words like;
- Who,
- What,
- Where,
- When,
- Why,
- How.
We use these questions to;
- Gather information,
- Seek clarification,
- Prompt a response from someone.
Why Work on Wh- Questions?
There are a range of benefits working on wh- questions with our students, these include;
- Improving comprehension abilities; listening carefully to questions and extracting the key information from what is being said.
- Students can work on formulating their thoughts and expressing themselves more clearly.
- Improved confidence in speaking abilities and better interactions.
- Opportunity to work on and develop their language development and communication skills.
- Helping to deepen conversations.
- Improve understanding and encourage critical thinking by prompting individuals to consider various aspects of a topic or situation.
Instructions
Below I have included the instructions for using this resource;
- Print out all of the included pages.
- Laminate the picture scene pages.
- Print and cut out the question cards.
- Each question card comes with room for a student’s name along with 2 recording columns to complete on different dates to track student progress.
- Ask students the questions provided on the question card and then mark their answer with a tick or cross if they are correct/incorrect.
