I am so excited to share this free potato head task box with you! I love task boxes. They’re my go-to resource in the classroom and I have hundreds of them all organized and ready to pull out. My task boxes range in sizes and what’s included. But, they’re still task boxes. That’s the beauty of them – they don’t have to be a one size thing!
This task box is one that I pull out again and again. It will mean that you need access to Mr and Mrs Potato Head. Below I am going to link the Mr and Mrs Potato Head’s that are used within these flashcards so that you can have the same ones to match to the photos.

How to Use
- First, you need to download the flashcards by clicking here.
You will need to enter your email address and sign up to the mailing list. Here you’ll not only get this free download but also access to my huge resource library! - Print out the flashcards you wish to use. I have them all printed out because then I can differentiate with my students easier.
- Cut out and laminate all of the cards.
- The larger cards are kept on their own as prompts for students to copy.
- The smaller cards can be hole punched and kept together with a keyring for students to flip through and follow step-by-step instructions to build their potato head.
This is a great opportunity to work on vocabulary and communicating with your students too! Have them name what body part they are looking for.. Provide them with their symbol cards to use to request the part they need.
Group Game
These activities can also be used as a group game. One way that I have used this as a group is;
- Place all of the items and the potato head in a box that you are going to use for this particular sequence.
- Divide the items up and hand them to your students.
- Hold up the flashcards one by one showing the sequence of building the potato head.
- Start with “Who has the potato head?” That student can then put the potato head in the middle of the table.
- Then, flip to the next card.. “Who has the eyes?” The student with the eyes then puts them onto the potato head, copying the card.
- Keep going throughout the sequence of building the potato head.
