What is an Adapted Book?
Before we dive in.. Just in case you are new here and have no idea what I’m talking about.. I’m going to share some information about adapted books.
Adapted books are books that are more accessible to students. They are often laminated and put together as small books. Students then work through the book and use symbol cards to answer different questions.
Who Can Use Adapted Books?
While adapted books work perfect in special ed.. They can also be used in a variety of different settings with students of all abilities and needs too.
How to Put Together
Adapted books are super easy to put together. And I love that I’m able to differentiate them to suit different levels.. And store them away for future use too! There’s nothing better than being able to re-use resources in the classroom and saving yourself time in the future for prepping.
To put together this adapted book, you just need to;
- Print out all of the pages.
- Cut out and laminate each of the pages and bind them into an adapted book.
- Cut out and laminate each of the individual symbol cards and place velcro onto the back of them.
- Laminate the final base – the baseboard – and add velcro onto these.
- Place the individual symbols onto the baseboard. Students choose the symbols from the baseboard to place onto the adapted book as they complete it.
