Today I’m sharing a special guest blog post by a lovely lady called Joana Cânovas. Joana works with a Portuguese non-profit organisation called APPDA. Read on below to find out more about the organisation and help out if you can – I know they’ll really appreciate any little bit of help you can provide.
I am a speech and language therapist, and I work with a Portuguese non-profit organization called APPDA (in English, Autism and other Developmental Disorders Organization). This organization was founded in 2004 by a group of parents with children with autism and is entirely dedicated to help find solutions and adequate care across the spectrum and throughout the life span, for the needs of people with autism and their closed ones, in Madeira Island (Portugal).
We are the only organization in the island that offers solutions for people with autism, including adequate therapies, like speech and occupational therapy, music therapy, aquatic therapy and others. We also have inclusive holiday camps for children and adults with autism.
With your donations, you will help us create more opportunities and access to services that otherwise would be financially inaccessible to many children and young people in our community.
Please read our story, you can help us just by getting the word out and sharing our link here.
Please feel free to visit our website, facebook and twitter to check out our work.
Here’s a picture of one of the summer camp field trips to Madeira botanical garden with the kids.
