In this blog post I’m sharing with you all of my best tips for how to host an end of year field day for your students and how to make it a success. You’ll also find 20 activities that you can use as part of your field day.
Hosting an end of year field day is a great way to celebrate the end of a school year, sports season, or any other milestone. It is an opportunity for everyone to come together and have a fun-filled day outdoors.
Location
First things first, you need to decide on a location. Ideally, the location should be spacious enough to accommodate all the activities you have planned. A park or a school field could be a great option. For us, we are fortunate enough to have access a large school field which makes things so much easier.
If you are using a local park or somewhere off campus, make sure to check with the relevant authorities to ensure you have the necessary permits and permissions to use the location.
Activities
Next, you need to plan the activities. Consider the age group of the attendees as well as their ability levels and plan activities that are appropriate for them. Some popular activities include tug of war, relay races, obstacle courses, and treasure hunts. You could also include activities like face painting, balloon twisting, and a photo booth for added fun.
Try to think of all your students who may access it. Will any accommodations be needed so that all students are able to access the field day?
Weather
It is also important to plan for the weather. Be sure to have a backup plan in case of rain or extreme heat. You could move the event indoors, reschedule, or have some activities under shelters or tents.
Refreshments
Food and drinks are also important aspects of any field day. You could opt for a potluck-style meal where everyone brings a dish to share. Or perhaps you can reach out to local businesses who would be willing to donate drinks and snacks. Alternatively, you could have food trucks or vendors providing food and drinks for purchase. Be sure to have enough water and other drinks to keep everyone hydrated throughout the day. I usually recommend asking families to send in snacks and drinks for their child.
Event Day
On the day of the event, ensure that there are enough volunteers to help with the activities and to ensure the safety of everyone. Make sure all equipment is set up and ready to go before the attendees arrive. Have a first aid kit on hand in case of injuries or accidents.
Finally, take plenty of pictures and videos to capture the memories of the day.
In conclusion, hosting an end of year field day can be a fantastic way to celebrate the end of a school year or sports season. By following the steps outlined above, you can ensure that your field day is a success.
Remember to plan the activities, consider the weather, provide food and drinks, promote the event, have enough volunteers, and take plenty of pictures and videos. With a little bit of planning and preparation, you can create a memorable experience for everyone involved.
