In this blog post I’m sharing all the information on how to make Halloween lava lamps. We LOVE making these and they’re a great activity to add to your Halloween science plans. Read on below to find out what you need and how you can make these Halloween lava lamps with your students too.

What You Need
- 2 tall plastic/glass jars. (USA Shopping Link Here. UK Shopping Link Here.)
- Black sharpie. (USA Shopping Link Here. UK Shopping Link Here.)
- Green food coloring. (USA Shopping Link Here. UK Shopping Link Here.)
- Orange food coloring. (USA Shopping Link Here. UK Shopping Link Here.)
- Vegetable oil. (USA Shopping Link Here. UK Shopping Link Here.)
- Water.
- Alka-Seltzer. (USA Shopping Link Here. UK Shopping Link Here.)
Instructions
- Clean out your jars to make sure there’s no clouding.
- Use your pen to draw a Jack-o’-Lantern face on one jar and a Frankenstein face on the other jar.
- Fill the jars 3/4 of the way with vegetable oil.
- Add in some drops of food coloring in each jar.
- Top up the jar with water.
- Crush up an Alka-Seltzer table and drop into the jar – watch as it reacts and turns into a lava lamp.
