We have been super busy in class learning all about St Patrick’s Day. We love to learn about different celebrations around the world, and this is one of our favourites. There are so many fantastic activities that you can do for St Patrick’s Day that the list is endless.
Today, we made this adorable leprechaun paper plate craft. We always bulk buy paper plates at the start of the year because they’re so inexpensive and they can be used in so many different ways throughout the year. You can see below one of our finished leprechaun crafts. Below that, there are some directions on how we made the craft.
You will need:
- Paper plate
- Orange paint
- Green paint
- Black marker pen
- Paintbrushes
- Card cut into the shape of the hat
- Black card cut to place onto the hat
- Green shamrock cut out of foam
- Glue
- Scissors
Directions
One of the best parts about this craft, is that you can pretty much tell how to make it just by looking at it. We love to make crafts simple. We always make one up first so that the students can follow the finished product. This means, we can stand back a bit, and let our students be more independent in their craft sessions.
- Paint the hat card cut out green and leave to dry
- Next, paint around the corners of the paper plate with orange paint and leave to try
- Once dry, stick the black piece of card onto the hat.
- Then, stick the foam shamrock onto the hat
- Now, stick your hat onto the top of the paper plate
- Finish by using the black marker pen to draw a face into the middle of the paper plate.
Now, on reflection, we didn’t paint the leprechauns face any type of skin colour. We just left it white. Next time I think we’ll leave out a palette of a range of different skin colour paints and students can choose which colour they want to paint their leprechaun’s skin. This is another great chance for us to teach about equality, something that’s really important to us.
