May Classroom Theme Ideas

I am so excited to be sharing some May classroom theme ideas with you today. I’ve always loved using themes in the classroom and I find it makes planning so much easier. But sometimes it can be really overwhelming trying to work out when to do which theme. So, each month on this blog I’m going to be sharing ideas for classroom themes that you can use.

Today, I am sharing my favorite May classroom theme ideas that we love to use – and I think you will too!

1. Spring

Spring in general is such a lovely theme to have in the classroom. There is SO much you can do with this theme.. And it’s genuinely one of my most loved times of year. Check out some of our top Spring activities;

2. Flowers

Flowers are another theme that you can do so much with. And May is the perfect month to do it – because there are so many beautiful flowers in bloom that you can find! Some of our top flower activities are;

3. Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day takes place in May and there are lots of great activities that you can do in the classroom to celebrate Mother’s Day. Check out some of our top activities;

4. Cinco de Mayo

If you’ve been here for a little while, you’ll know how much I love to celebrate a variety of holidays and events with my students. And Cinco de Mayo is always a great theme to use through May. Here are some of our top activities;

5. Camping

I managed to pick up some super fun camping bits in the Target dollar spot a couple of years back – and now camping has quickly become one of my most popular themes. You can do so much with it, and it’s another great excuse to get outdoors too! Check out some of our top activities here;

6. Construction

Construction is always a popular theme with my students. There are lots of great hands-on activities you can do with this theme, and it’s actually a theme you could use at any time of the year. Here are some of our top construction activities;

7. Zoo

We love getting to visit the zoo during the warmer months. And so the zoo is the perfect theme to use in May when the weather is just starting to get warmer. As well as taking a field trip to the zoo, here are some of our top zoo themed activities;

8. Bugs and Insects

Another perfect reason to get outside more now that the weather is getting nicer is the theme bugs and insects! My students love going on a nature hunt and trying to find different bugs and insects that live in the world around us. And again, this is a great theme that you can make so many different activities for. Here are some of our top activities;

9. Graduation

Graduation classroom themes have become more and more popular over the last few years. And it’s actually a really nice theme to use to end the year together. Here are some of our top graduation activities;

10. Memorial Day

Memorial Day takes place on the last Monday of May. And it’s a really important theme to try and include in your classroom to teach your students about if possible. It is a federal holiday in the US. And it honors and remembers military who have died while serving the US armed forces. Check out some of our top activities below;
