In this blog post today I’m sharing some of our favorite picture books that feature characters with ADHD. These books are perfect to help children understand ADHD and how this can look. They’re also perfect if you have students with ADHD who you want to help understand themselves as well.

1. Completely Matt
This book is about a boy who is different. And one day, when he accidentally offends his friends, he teaches them all about ADHD and being able to accept yourself.

In this book your students will learn all about Robby and his ADHD..ANd all the wonderful things that his friends do with him and how happy they are that Robby is their friend.

This book is perfect if you’re looking for something to help your students work on controlling their emotions. In this book, students get to follow Nicole who has ADHD.. And a busy, busy brain. Your students will get to learn about Nicole’s experiences at school.

4. Loud!
In this book, your students will get to follow Abigail who has ADHD. Abigail struggles to concentrate.. But she has one teacher who just knows how to get her engaged!

5. My Whirling Twirling Motor
With this book students will follow Charlie who feels like he constantly has a whirling, twirling motor running inside of him and he just can’t settle down! But, mom has a surprise for him!

6. My Wandering, Dreaming Mind
With this book, students will learn all about Sadie. Sadie feels like her thoughts are soaring up in the clouds and she just can’t bring them back down to earth! So her parents help her think of a clever plan to remind Sadie just how amazing she is.

With this book, your students will learn about Mia and her life with ADHD, including how this is often misunderstood by her family and loved ones. Wepa is a metaphor for her ADHD.. And no matter how hard she tries to bottle up her wepa.. She just can’t contain it. This book is bilingual English/Spanish and is perfect for helping your students to learn more about ADHD.

We love the language used in this book and the way that it talks all about how the human brain develops.. And what it means to have ADHD. This book is informative and perfect for young readers.

10. Benji’s Busy Brain
This is one of our favorite books. It’s all about Benji and his busy brain.. The busy brain that brings him adventure and excitement.. But also some difficulties too.
