Do you love to offer your students hands-on and engaging sensory activities? Check out this play dough kit cupcakes activity that is perfect to use with your students.
Setting Up
If you haven’t heard of a play dough kit before, you may be wondering why I have the play dough set up this way. And it’s mainly because of how easy it is to be able to offer an independent activity for my students.
I like to use these flower trays as they keep everything organised and separated.
I always put the play dough in the middle of the tray, and then I have the other pieces in the other parts of the tray.
What’s Included?
For this set up, I have included the following;
- Yellow play dough – this is to mould the cupcake.
- Cupcake cases.
- Fine motor tweezers.
- Clear gems.
- Candles.
- Pompoms.
- Sprinkles.
What to Do?
Students mould the play dough into a cake case and make a cupcake. Students can then use the other objects around the sensory tray to decorate the cupcake.
Why Use One?
There are a range of reasons why you should use these play dough kits. And I’m going to list just a few of them down below;
- It provides an independent work activity for your students.
- A chance for students to work creatively and use their imagination.
- Students can work on their fine motor skills.
- You can provide your students with instructions to decorate. This will work on them following directions.
- It’s a calming activity that works well to provide your students with a fun break.
