Description
This social story is a great read for students who may need some support and help to understand what they should and shouldn’t do in the kitchen and how they can stay safe.
Many students with autism are visual learners and like to learn through seeing something in action. This book comes complete with matching, simple yet engaging graphics to help describe what is being said on the page.
Comes in col option only – no b/w availability, however you can print in grayscale.
Pages included are;
♦ The kitchen is where we can make food and drinks.
♦ When I am older, I might be allowed into the kitchen on my own.
♦ The kitchen can be a dangerous place, so I need to remember how to stay safe.
♦ If the oven has been on, it may be hot. I should not touch around or inside it.
♦ If the toaster has been on, it may be hot. I should not touch it.
♦ If I use the toaster, I should never put anything inside there except bread.
♦ If I use the oven, I should always use an oven glove to protect my hands.
♦ When I am washing dishes, I should wear gloves and warm water – not hot!
♦ Sometimes, I might need to use a knife to cut.
♦ I should only touch the handle of the knife and I should be very careful.
♦ If someone else is cooking, I should be careful and not bang into them or touch them.
♦ I should never climb on any of the surfaces or tables in the kitchen.
♦ I should be very careful with glasses and glass bowls.
♦ If I smash something, I should use a dustpan and brush to sweep up – not my hands.
♦ I should ask an adult before using knives or sharp objects.
♦ The kitchen can be dangerous, so I should not run in here or jump around.
♦ I should never put glass or anything metal into the microwave.
♦ When cooking food, I should follow the instructions on the packaging or the recipe.
♦ If food has just come out of the oven or microwave, I should be careful because it will be very hot!
♦ If I want a hot drink, I can fill up and boil the kettle.
♦ The kettle gets very hot so I should be very careful and ask an adult to help me if I need. I should only
touch the handle.
♦ If I cut myself with a knife, I should call an adult.
♦ The adult might wash my cut, then get me a bandage to stop the bleeding.
♦ If I burn myself, I should call an adult.
♦ The adult might wash my burn and apply a bandage.
♦ If my injury is bad, an adult may take me to hospital to get seen.
