Description
This social story is a great read for students who may need some support and help with the issue of stealing, along with different strategies of how they can share with others, take turns and play with items but not to take them. It also discusses how this could make them and others feel.
Many students with autism are visual learners and like to learn through seeing something in action. This book comes complete with matching, simple yet engaging graphics to help describe what is being said on the page.
Comes in col option only – no b/w availability, however you can print in grayscale.
Pages included are;
♦ Sometimes I might see something that I really like!
♦ The item isn’t mine, but I really want it!
♦ I might take the item and put it in my pocket or backpack.
♦ This is called stealing. Stealing will make others feel angry or sad.
♦ If I steal, others won’t want to be my friend.
♦ This will make me feel sad.
♦ Stealing can also get me into trouble with my teacher.
♦ If I see something I like, I can ask to have a turn to play.
♦ My friends will be happy to share their toys with me.
♦ My friends might let me borrow their toys for a short time.
♦ I must give it back when they want to play with their toy.
♦ My friends might be playing with their toy and tell me I can’t play with it.
♦ This might make me feel sad, but it is their toy.
♦ Maybe, they will let me play with it later when they have finished.
♦ I could also ask a teacher if they can help me.
♦ Sometimes, other children might like my toys.
♦ They might try to take the toy off me, this might make me angry or sad.
♦ I shouldn’t argue with them. I should ask a teacher for help.
♦ If someone asks if they can play with my toy I can say yes and share.
♦ Or I can say no, i’m playing with it right now, but they can play with it later.
♦ This is called sharing and will make me a good friend.
♦ Being a good friend will make me feel happy.
♦ Sharing will make my teacher and friends feel happy.
I recommend printing out each of the individual pages, laminating them and then binding them into a book so it will be easier for students to read – or be read to, as well as being stronger and longer lasting.
