There are 12 different groundhog day adapted books included in this pack. They are great for students to work on their sentence building skills. The books come in different levels to differentiate between students abilities. This also helps students progress through levels and their sentence building skills.

Adapted books are a great way to encourage students to pay close attention to detail. They also help students start to link vocabulary to the images that they see. Each book comes with symbols as well as a ‘base page.’ The base page is where the symbols can be stored when not in use. Students select the symbols from here to use within the adapted books.
 
All books come in both col and b/w option for your printing preference.
 
Adapted books are great to use in special education or autism classrooms. They have a variety of benefits for users. One being that they are a great way for students to work on symbol recognition.
Spelling is available to suit both colour/color, grey/gray etc.

The books included are;

Level 1 – counting groundhogs, “4/four” “5/five”
♦ How many?
Level 2 – counting groundhogs, “2/two groundhogs”, “4/four groundhogs.”
 
♦ How many?
What colour/color? Level 3 – count and colour recognition “I can see 2 red groundhogs”
 
♦ What colour?
Level 2 – “red groundhog” “blue groundhog” etc.
 
♦ Prepositions
Level 1 – ‘the groundhog is behind the ____’ – fill in the gap. One box/symbol, rest of sentence is already written.
 
♦ Prepositions
Level 2 -the ___ is _____ the ______’ fill in the gap. I.e the groundhog is in front of the tree. Fill in two boxes/symbols. Rest is ready written.
 
♦ Prepositions
Level 3 – “the groundhog is next to the tree” fill in all words.
 
♦ What can you see?
Level 1 – “groundhog”, “sun” etc.
 
♦ Sequencing
Read the line of the story on top of the page and then find the matching symbol underneath.
 
♦ Wh- questions
Answer the questions with a symbol. I.e “What is the groundhog wearing?” “a snorkel mask.”

Level 1 – what shape is the groundhog – “square”, “circle” etc.

Level 2 – what shape is the groundhog – “square groundhog”, “circle groundhog” etc.
Each adapted book comes with instructions included on the first page. These tell you how you can put the books together.
These books are great to help students build up and work on their sentences. They encourage students to select the correct words(symbols) to match the picture. As well as being able to place them in the correct order to build an appropriate sentence.
