Description
This social story is a great read for students who may need some support with understanding personal space – whether this is where they are ones who struggle to give others personal space, or struggle with others coming into their personal space, this social story is a great read to help everyone understand the importance of it, and how it can make us/others feel.
Many students with autism are visual learners and like to learn through seeing something in action. This book comes complete with matching, simple yet engaging graphics to help describe what is being said on the page.
Comes in col option only – no b/w availability, however you can print in grayscale.
Pages included are;
♦ Personal space is like an invisible bubble around you.
♦ You can’t see personal space, but it’s there.
♦ Everyone deserves to have their own personal space.
♦ Everyone has personal space – adults, children and even animals!
♦ Sometimes when I talk to my friends I stand really close to them.
♦ Others may not like when I stand too close to them.
♦ If I forget to give personal space, I can say “I’m sorry”
♦ Or, I could take a step back to give them more space.
♦ I should be able to stretch my arms and just touch them with my fingers.
♦ Sometimes I go into my mom and dad’s personal space when I give them a hug.
♦ That is ok because they are my family and like to give me hugs.
♦ Giving my friends more space will make them feel more comfortable.
♦ Sometimes, other people may stand too close to me.
♦ It might make me feel uncomfortable or scared when people stand too close.
♦ I can ask them to take a step back to give me more space.
♦ Or I can take a step back to give us more space in between.
♦ Or I can ask them if I can have more room.
♦ When I give others personal space, I know I am being a good friend.
♦ When others give me personal space, I know they are being a good friend.
I recommend printing out each of the individual pages, laminating them and then binding them into a book so it will be easier for students to read – or be read to, as well as being stronger and longer lasting.
