Description
This social story is a great read for students who may need some support and help when their mum is having a new baby. It will hopefully help learners understand what is happening and what effect this will have on them as a family.
Many students with autism are visual learners and like to learn through seeing something in action. This book comes complete with matching, simple yet engaging graphics to help describe what is being said on the page.
Comes in col option only – no b/w availability, however you can print in grayscale.
Pages included are;
♦ My mum’s belly is starting to grow. This is because there’s a baby growing inside.
♦ My mum will go for scans through her pregnancy so we can see the baby growing.
♦ When it’s coming to the end of her pregnancy, mum might have to go to hospital.
♦ Mum will give birth in the hospital and the baby will be checked by the nurses.
♦ My mum and the baby might stay in hospital for a few days.
♦ When my mum is in hospital my dad will look after me.
♦ When my mum is in hospital my family will look after me.
♦ We might go to the hospital to visit my mum and the baby.
♦ The baby will be very small, so we have to be really careful.
♦ I can find out if I have a baby sister or brother.
♦ I can help mum look after the baby.
♦ When they are ready, mum and the baby will come home with us.
♦ Babies can’t talk, so they communicate by crying. Sometimes this is really loud!
♦ If the crying is too much, I can go to my room for some space.
♦ Or I can listen to some music or watch tv to distract myself.
♦ It is not the baby’s fault, they are just trying to communicate with us.
♦ When the baby is older they might start to talk to communicate with us.
♦ The baby is my new sibling. Our parents love us both very much.
