In this blog post I’m sharing solar eclipse activities for special education. These activities are perfect to use to introduce the solar eclipse into your classroom.
What is a Solar Eclipse?
A solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes between the Earth and the Sun. This temporarily blocks the Sun’s light from reaching the Earth.
A solar eclipse only happens during a new moon phase. This is when the Sun and the Moon are in conjunction as views from Earth. There are 3 types of eclipse; total eclipse, partial eclipse or annular eclipse. The type of eclipse that happens depends on the relative distance and sizes of the Sun, Moon and the Earth.
A total solar eclipse is where the Moon completely covers the Sun. A partial solar eclipse is when only part of the Sun is obscured by the Moon. An annular eclipse is when the Moon is too far away from the Earth to completely cover the Sun, this leaves a ‘ring of fire’ visible.
