Why You’ll Love This Craft

  • Simple and easy-to-make – Uses materials you probably already have!
  • Great for fine motor skills – Cutting, gluing, and decorating build coordination.
  • Encourages creativity – Kids can experiment with different textures and designs.
  • Perfect for St. Patrick’s Day celebrations – A fun way to bring festive cheer into the classroom!

Materials Needed

  • Paper plate – I do recommend cutting out the bit of the paper plate (as you can see in the image) beforehand if you don’t think your students will be able to do this bit – it’s quite tough to cut through!
  • Black paint
  • Paintbrush
  • Scissors
  • Gold Card
  • White card – cut into a shamrock shape
  • Glue
  • Green glitter

Directions

  • First, paint your paper plate black (this is after it’s been cut) and then leave it to dry.
  • Cut a shamrock shape out of the white card (if you haven’t already)
  • Spread some glue on your shamrock shape and then sprinkle some green glitter on top.
  • Use a circle stencil to draw around on your gold card.
  • Cut out the gold circles on the card.
  • Once your paper plate is dry, glue the bottom of the cut out piece of the card, then stick your gold coins onto here.
  • Glue the shamrock onto the front of the pot of gold.

Ways to Extend Learning

  • 📚 Storytime Connection – Pair this craft with books like How to Catch a Leprechaun or The Night Before St. Patrick’s Day.
  • 🎨 Texture Play – Use different materials like felt, foam, or crinkled tissue paper for sensory exploration.
  • 🖐 Fine Motor Skills – Encourage kids to cut, paste, and place coins carefully to build dexterity.
  • 💬 Discussion Prompt – Talk about the legend of leprechauns and the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow!

This St. Patrick’s Day Pot of Gold Craft is a fun and engaging activity that adds creativity to the holiday. Whether you’re teaching in a special education classroom, homeschooling, or doing crafts at home, this project is a great way to encourage artistic expression and hands-on learning! 🌈✨
