We are still working on some great St Patrick’s Day crafts in class and this is one of my favourite ones so far. You can’t really celebrate St Patrick’s Day without including a pot of gold somewhere! Which is when we decided to make this adorable pot of gold craft.
This one was a little trickier for our students, so we pre-cut the paper plate into this shape and the four leaf clover and then the students done the rest. They tried SO hard cutting out their gold coins. I’m so pleased how much they are progressing with their cutting skills. We aren’t on ‘normal’ scissors yet – we still use the spring scissors where we can help our students but give them some independence while cutting too. So, do you want to make this awesome craft too? Just read below!
You Will Need:
- Paper plate – I do recommend cutting out the bit of the paper plate (as you can see in the image) beforehand if you don’t think your students will be able to do this bit – it’s quite tough to cut through!
- Black paint
- Paintbrush
- Scissors
- Gold Card
- White card – cut into a shamrock shape
- Glue
- Green glitter
Directions
- First, paint your paper plate black (this is after it’s been cut) and then leave it to dry.
- Cut a shamrock shape out of the white card (if you haven’t already)
- Spread some glue on your shamrock shape and then sprinkle some green glitter on top.
- Use a circle stencil to draw around on your gold card.
- Cut out the gold circles on the card.
- Once your paper plate is dry, glue the bottom of the cut out piece of the card, then stick your gold coins onto here.
- Glue the shamrock onto the front of the pot of gold.
And that’s it! It really is such a lovely and easy craft activity to make. We usually display these around our classroom during the week of St Patrick’s Day so everyone can see what we’ve been making.
Let me know if you make this craft – or tag me on Instagram @teachingautism – I LOVE seeing the crafts that you all make with your kids!
