In this blog post I have attached a template for sensory room funding (or a sensory area). There are lots of benefits our students to have access to a sensory room or area… But we don’t always have the budget to do this. And I’m a huge believer that teachers should not be out of pocket for constantly purchasing items. Especially for their classroom or school.
However, I also know that it can be really overwhelming to ask others for donations for your classroom.. Or even trying to just put together a pitch for DonorsChoose etc.
That’s why I’ve tried to make this a little easier for you. I’ve included a template for a sensory area or room below. You can use this template as a base for your DonorsChoose request.. Or even just for an open funding request online.
Hopefully this template will save you some time. And you just can just add/edit/remove some parts to make this letter more personal for your students and classroom.
The Template
Dear Donors,
As a special education teacher, I am constantly looking for ways to create an environment that is conducive to learning and development for my students. One area that I am particularly passionate about is the creation of a sensory area in our classroom (or school.)
A sensory area would provide my students with a safe space to explore their senses and regulate their emotions. This is especially important for students with sensory processing disorders or autism, who can become overwhelmed and need a calm and quiet space to decompress.
With your help, we can create a sensory area that includes items such as weighted blankets, noise-cancelling headphones, fidget toys, and other sensory tools that will help my students feel more comfortable and engaged in their learning.
Not only will this benefit my current students, but it will also be a resource for future students who may need these accommodations. Your donation will make a significant impact on the lives of these students and their families, providing them with the tools they need to succeed in school and beyond.
Thank you for considering our project and for your support in creating a more inclusive and supportive learning environment.
Sincerely,
[Your Name]
