This week we have been baking Valentine’s heart biscuits. Cooking is one of my student’s favorite lessons, and we cook every single week. As Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, we decided to make some heart biscuits this week.
When they were complete, we packaged them up into some treat bags and send them home as little Valentine gifts for my student’s families. They went down a treat!
Read below to find the recipe and instructions for how you can bake these too.

How to Make
First of all, we bake the biscuits the day before. It’s a little hard sometimes to try and fit everything into one day for cooking. So we’ll often spread it out over two days.
Ingredients
- 250g plain flour
- 75g caster sugar
- 175g unsalted butter, softened
- A pinch of salt
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 180°C.
- Line a 20cm square baking tin with parchment paper.
- Place the flour, sugar and salt into a large mixing bowl and mix until well combined.
- Add softened butter to the bowl and, rub it into the dry ingredients, using your fingers, until a smooth dough forms.
- Use a heart cutter to cut heart shapes out of the dough.
- Place the heart dough pieces onto the parchment paper, leaving space between each.
- Bake in the oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
- Leave the shortbread to cool completely – we left ours overnight before decorating.
