In this blog post I’m sharing this St David’s Day tasting activity that we have done in the classroom. We love to celebrate St David’s Day, and we do this in a variety of different ways. One of those ways is by visiting our local market and purchasing local foods to taste in our classroom.
Trying new foods can be really difficult for a lot of our students. So we like to offer them choices whenever possible. And St David’s Day is a great way to introduce some foods that our students may not have come across before.
Before I share about this tasting activity, I’m going to share some information about St David’s Day. Just in case this is a celebration you haven’t heard about before.
What is St. David’s Day?
St. David’s Day is a Welsh national holiday celebrated on March 1st each year. This is to celebrate and remember Saint David, the patron saint of Wales.
To celebrate this day, across welsh there will be various festivities that showcase Welsh culture, heritage, and traditions.
Many people will wear daffodils or leeks, which are symbols of Wales. They may also participate in parades, concerts, and traditional folk dances. It is a time for people to come together to celebrate their Welsh identity and commemorate the life and contributions of Saint David.
