What is Time Blindness?
Time blindness is a cognitive condition that affects a person’s perception of time. Someone with time blindness may have difficulty estimating how long a task or activity will take to complete. Or they struggle to manage their time effectively.
As a result, they may have trouble with;
- meeting deadlines
- arriving on time for appointments
- completing tasks in a timely manner.
Linked with ADHD
Time blindness is closely linked to ADHD.
ADHD = Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.
Studies show that up to 80% of individuals who have ADHD also experience time blindness. People with ADHD have difficulty with executive function, which includes the ability to plan, organize, and manage time effectively.
How to Support
Supporting someone with time blindness can involve several strategies, such as;
- setting clear and realistic expectations
- breaking tasks into smaller, more manageable chunks
- providing reminders and prompts to help them stay on track.
Encouraging the use of tools and apps that help with time management, such as calendars, timers, and to-do lists, can also be helpful.
In summary, time blindness is a cognitive condition that affects an individual’s perception of time and is closely linked to ADHD. Supporting someone with time blindness can involve strategies such as setting clear expectations, breaking tasks into smaller chunks, and encouraging the use of time management tools.
