Ocean themes are not only fun and seasonal, they also offer tons of opportunities for sensory play, story-telling, imaginative thinking, and visual learning. This resource pairs all of that energy with a strong focus on developing fine motor skills.

Because let’s be real: we all have students who need help with pencil control, grip strength, and writing endurance. So why not make that practice fun?

What Are the Ocean Fine Motor Tracing Cards?

This resource includes a set of ocean-themed tracing cards, designed to be used over and over again as a reusable task box. Each card features:

Dry-erase markers are my go-to, but you can also use:

Wiki sticks or play dough to follow the paths

4. Set the Scene

Introduce the activity with a little ocean story, a fun song (hello, “Baby Shark”), or a sensory bin filled with sand and seashells to make it extra engaging.

5. Student Time!

Let students choose a card, grab their marker or tool, and trace along the path.

Easy Ways to Extend the Activity

Want to take things up a notch? Here are some quick and easy ways to extend learning:

Pair with scissor skills – have students cut along lines afterward (print on plain paper first!).
Add a literacy element – have students name the ocean animals or brainstorm other words that start with the same letter.
