  • 1 pack of hot dogs or sausages
  • 1 sheet puff pastry (or a can of crescent roll dough)
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • Candy eyes (or make your own with mayo and peppercorns, or mustard dots)
  • Ketchup or mustard for dipping

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking tray with parchment paper.

Step 2: Cut the Pastry

Roll out your puff pastry and cut it into thin strips (about ¼ inch wide). These will become the mummy’s “bandages.”

Step 3: Wrap the Hot Dogs

Take one sausage at a time and wrap the pastry strips around it, leaving small gaps for the “face” area near the top. Don’t worry if it looks messy – that’s part of the charm!

Step 4: Brush with Egg Wash

Whisk the egg and lightly brush it over the wrapped hot dogs. This gives them a lovely golden finish when baked.

Step 5: Bake

Place your wrapped mummies on the baking tray and bake for 15–18 minutes, or until the pastry is puffed and golden brown.

Step 6: Add Eyes

Once baked, let them cool slightly, then add two candy eyes to each mummy using a tiny dab of ketchup, mustard, or icing as “glue.”

Tips for Success

  • For extra flavor, brush your pastry with garlic butter before baking.
  • Use mini sausages for bite-sized mummies (great for kids’ parties).
  • Want a vegetarian version? Try veggie sausages or cheese sticks instead.
  • Add a slice of cheese under the pastry for a gooey surprise inside.
  • Serve with a variety of dips – ketchup, mustard, BBQ, or spicy mayo.

Perfect for Halloween Parties and Classroom Events

These Mummy Hot Dogs are always a hit at any Halloween event! They’re easy to transport, fun to eat, and don’t require plates or forks – making them ideal for classroom parties or buffet-style gatherings.

You can even get the kids involved in wrapping the hot dogs themselves. It’s a fun fine-motor activity and a great way to keep them entertained while preparing for a spooky celebration.

Serve them alongside other themed foods like mummy brownies, bat cookies, or pumpkin hand pies for a complete Halloween spread that looks as amazing as it tastes.

Storage and Reheating

If you have leftovers (which doesn’t happen often!), you can store them in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days. Reheat in the oven at 350°F (180°C) for 5–8 minutes to crisp them up again before serving.

These Halloween Mummy Hot Dogs are one of those recipes that never fail to make people smile. They’re silly, simple, and absolutely delicious – perfect for busy parents, teachers, or anyone looking to add a bit of spooky fun to their Halloween celebrations.

So grab some pastry, wrap up those hot dogs, and get ready to serve the cutest mummies you’ve ever seen!
