Materials Needed:
- Leprechaun template (Download it from my Free Resource Library – link below!)
- A photo of each student.
- Green Paint
- Sponge brushes or regular paintbrushes
- Orange pom-poms or tissue paper (for the beard)
- Glue
How to Make the Leprechaun Self-Portrait Craft

Step 1: Print & Cut the Template
Start by opening up the Leprechaun Template in either Keynote or PowerPoint. Insert student’s faces into the centre of the leprechaun and print. If you prefer to have students do this – just print out size ready images of each student and the leprechaun templates. Then have students stick their faces into the middle of the template. If you’re doing this activity with a whole class, prepping the cutouts ahead of time will make things run smoothly!
Step 2: Paint the Hat & Outfit
Using green paint, have your students paint the hat and leprechaun outfit. Sponge brushes work really well for this, especially for little hands that might struggle with a regular brush.
Step 3: Create the Beard
Now, the fun part—the leprechaun’s beard! You can use orange pom-poms or scrunched-up tissue paper to create a fluffy beard around the face. Students can either glue them one by one or roll glue along the edge and press them into place.
Step 5: Let It Dry & Admire the Cuteness!
Once everything is dry, you’ll have an adorable class full of mini leprechauns! These make a great St. Patrick’s Day bulletin board display or can be sent home as a festive keepsake.
