If you want to see what is stocked inside my art and crafts cabinet, check out my must-have list below;
Step-By-Step Instructions
1: Prepare the Paper Strips
- Cut strips of colored paper about 1 inch wide.
- If using patterned scissors, cut the edges in a zig-zag or wavy pattern for a fun textured effect.
- Arrange the strips in a rainbow order or let kids create their own patterns.
2: Create the Background
- Choose a solid-colored piece of cardstock (green, blue, or pastel colors work well).
- Begin gluing the strips of paper horizontally, layering them on top of each other.
- Keep going until you’ve covered enough space for your bunny cutout.
3: Cut Out the Bunny Silhouette
- On a separate sheet of white cardstock, draw or trace a bunny shape.
- If you want to make it easier, print a bunny template and cut it out.
- Carefully cut out the inside of the bunny shape, creating a bunny silhouette window.
4: Assemble the Bunny Design
- Take your bunny cutout and place it over the rainbow-striped background.
- Once you’re happy with the placement, glue it down securely.
5: Add the Bunny’s Tail & Final Touches
- Glue a cotton ball or pom-pom onto the bunny for a fluffy tail.
- Decorate the background with Easter stickers, sequins, or even a bit of glitter for extra sparkle!
Ways to Adapt This Craft for Different Needs
This craft is super flexible, making it perfect for various skill levels and learning styles! Here’s how you can adapt it:
Younger Kids or Students Needing Extra Fine Motor Support:
- Use pre-cut paper strips instead of having them cut their own.
- Allow kids to tear paper instead of using scissors for a different sensory experience.
- Skip the bunny cutout and let them just make a striped rainbow collage.
Kids Who Love Art & Creativity:
- Let them paint the strips instead of using colored paper.
- Offer pastels, colored pencils, or watercolors for extra artistic flair.
- Add glitter glue or metallic paper to make their bunny extra fancy!
For a Literacy or Writing Connection:
- Have kids write or dictate a short Easter poem or fun fact about bunnies on the back of their craft.
- Create a “Bunny Name Generator” and have them name their bunny creation.
- Use the craft as part of a storytelling activity—”Where is this bunny going for Easter?”
