Ingredients You’ll Need

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter (plus more for the pan)
  • Chocolate chips or chocolate buttons (for eyes and mouth)
  • Powdered sugar (optional, for dusting)
  • Ghost-shaped cookie cutter (optional but super handy!)

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Make the Pancake Batter

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
In a separate bowl, mix the milk, egg, and melted butter. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry mixture and stir until combined. (It’s okay if the batter is slightly lumpy – that helps make fluffier pancakes!)

Step 2: Heat the Pan

Heat a non-stick frying pan or griddle over medium heat and lightly grease it with butter.

Step 3: Shape Your Ghosts

If you have a ghost-shaped cookie cutter, place it on the pan and pour a small amount of batter inside, filling it about halfway. Cook for 1–2 minutes, then gently lift the cutter and flip the pancake.

If you don’t have a cutter, don’t worry! You can spoon the batter into ghost shapes by hand using a small ladle or squeeze bottle. Imperfect shapes actually make them even cuter.

Step 4: Add the Face

Once the pancakes are cooked, add chocolate chips or buttons for the eyes and mouth. If you’re feeling fancy, drizzle some melted chocolate or syrup over them.

Step 5: Dust with Powdered Sugar

For an extra spooky (and sweet) touch, lightly dust your ghost pancakes with powdered sugar before serving.

Tips for Success

  • No ghost cutter? Use a gingerbread man cutter and trim off the arms – instant ghost!
  • Make-ahead: You can make these pancakes the night before and reheat them in the toaster or microwave.
  • Allergy-friendly: Substitute dairy-free milk and vegan butter for a plant-based version.
  • Want extra fluff? Add a splash of sparkling water or an extra egg white to your batter.

Fun Variations

  • Ghost Toasts: Use bread instead of batter! Cut out ghost shapes, toast them, and sprinkle with powdered sugar.
  • Mini Ghosts: Make bite-sized ghosts for little hands – perfect for classroom snacks.
  • Fruity Faces: Use blueberries or banana slices for eyes instead of chocolate chips.

Perfect for Halloween Mornings or Parties

These ghost pancakes are a fun way to kick off Halloween celebrations at home or school. Serve them as part of a Halloween-themed breakfast with orange juice, fruit, or spooky-shaped eggs.

Teachers can even turn this idea into a classroom cooking activity – pre-cook the pancakes and let students decorate their own ghosts with toppings. It’s creative, fun, and delicious!

If you’re after a Halloween breakfast idea that’s simple, spooky, and sure to make everyone giggle, these Ghost Pancakes are the way to go. With just a few basic ingredients and minimal effort, you’ll have a festive breakfast ready in no time.

They’re perfect for families, classrooms, or Halloween parties – and they taste as good as they look. So grab your mixing bowl, dust off your cookie cutters, and get ready to serve up some hauntingly good pancakes this Halloween!
